HRH Premier to inaugurate power project

Manama, May 7 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, will inaugurate work on a 400 kv electricity transmission line on Wednesday (May 11). The ceremony, under HRH the Prime Minister’s patronage, will be held at the Hidd Power station. In a statement, Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza said the facility is one of a series of projects implemented by the government for the aim of keeping pace with the needs of citizens and residents, and in keeping with the increase in population as well as people’s needs. The minister said this is one of the most vital projects implemented by the Electricity and Water Authority. The next few years, he said, will see three major electricity transfer stations also being built. The project aims to reduce "short circuits" and would ensure the safe operation of the equipment to transfer electrical energy from production plants to load centres throughout Bahrain efficiently and effectively, which would meet all the needs of development and facilitate the exchange of electric power with GCC network. The BD180-million-project consists of four work packages and is being implemented by the German company Siemens. Prysmian Group, from Italy, and another company from Japan are supplying the transmission lines. The Korean company, Hyundai, is supplying the transformers. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
