ICRC to work with Iran, Iraq to clarify situation of war disappeared

Tehran, Dec 16, IRNA – International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) coordinator on war disappeared affairs said the committee has been cooperating with Iran and Iraq to clarify situation of war disappeared. Ms. Eva Pohar, in a press conference here in the venue of ICRC representative office in Tehran on Sunday, said around 60,000 people disappeared in the eight years of Iraq-Iran war and search operation and delivery of corpses have been done by representatives of the two governments. As ICRC had important role in exchanging prisoners of war during the war, now it is offering technical support in direction of negotiation related to the issue. Pohar said that Iran has done good work concerning the operation and that is why figures for victims caused by such ammunition are low. She continued that from 60,000 disappeared of the war, 10,000 belong to Iran. Pohar stressed that Iranˈs strategic position and importance in the region, has made it possible to do logistic operation for humanitarian purposes in other countries.
