Idul Fitri 2017 - Over 17 Thousand Holidaymakers Visit Yogyakarta Zoo

YOGYAKARTA, July 3 (Antara)- Over 17 thousand holidaymakers visited Gembira Loka Zoo in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (June 28), the largest number of tourists visiting the zoo during the Idul Fitri Islamic holiday season this year. "The peak of the visits was on Wednesday, four days after the Idul Fitri (locally known as Lebaran that fell on Sunday, June 25). The number of visitors reached more than 17 thousand tourists on that day alone," Heri Dharma of the Gembira Loka (GL) Zoo, said here, Sunday. To give better services to the zoo's visitors, the GL Zoo management deployed additional 125 employees. The zoo offers among other things paddle boats, elephant ride, camel ride, Zoo Express train, and water pedicabs to visitors. The ticket fare of the GL Zoo during the Lebaran season is Rp35 thousand per person. The government declared June 25 and 26 as national holidays as Muslims celebrated Idul Fitri, after observing fasting for a month. The government decided to give extra holidays for people taking joint leave from June 23 until 30.
