Indian cine star Amitabh Bachchan undergoes surgery, doing fine
Mumbai, Feb 11 (PTI) Indian cine star Amitabh Bachchan successfully underwent abdominal surgery at a hospital here today and will be discharged in 2-3 days, his son Abhishek Bachchan said.
The 69-year-old actor, who has a history of stomach ailments since his intestinal injury on the sets of the 1982 film "Coolie", was admitted to the Seven Hills hospital in suburban Andheri.
"The patient was wheeled into the operation theatre at around 9-9.30 am (local time) and is doing fine.... Doctors involved in the operation have said there are no complications," hospital's spokesman Dr Asthana told reporters.
"All vital parameters of Mr Bachchan are normal. He was cheerful when wheeled into the operation theatre and before going for the operation even visited a temple in the hospital premises," he said.
The operation lasted for about 2-3 hours and everything is normal, said Abhishek.
"The operation was successful. It was a minor surgery. Today, he will be under observation and if everything is fine, he will be discharged in 2-3 days," he said.
"Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting," the junior Bachchan later tweeted.
The actor has said the latest problem stems from the "Coolie" accident. He had suffered a near fatal injury on July 26, 1982 while filming the scene with co-star Puneet Issar. Bachchan remained in hospital for many months at that time. PTI
