Indonesia Studies Worldwide Innovation Systems

Jakarta, Sept 12 (Antara) - An international seminar on innovation funding was held here on Thursday to showcase regional and national innovation systems used in other countries in an effort to help Indonesia learn from them, an official has said. "Through the seminar, we intend to share our experiences of developing a national innovation system with countries such as Australia and Finland," Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) Chief Marzan A. Iskandar stated at the seminar on Thursday. He explained that this seminar was one of several events and activities held to observe National Technology Day. Researchers and experts from various countries, including the United States, Finland, Germany, and Nigeria, participated in the seminar. Iskandar noted that to effectively address the dynamics of rapid change, competitive ability will increasingly be based on innovation ability across the board. "Experience has shown that both national and regional innovation systems will determine the competitiveness of a country. Therefore, Indonesia needs to study the innovation systems being utilized in other countries," he said. According to him, the inadequate financing of science and technology, especially for research and development, has posed a challenge to the strengthening of innovation in Indonesia.
