Indonesian Officials To Attend Education Course In The U.S.

Jakarta, Sept 19 (Antara) - A delegation of Indonesian officials will travel to the United States to attend an education course at Harvard University, the United Sates, as stated by the US Embassy here on its official website on Thursday. It is said that the delegation will depart for the US on September 20 to participate in an executive education course on good governance and strategic leadership at Harvard University and Northwestern University. On September 19, Charg� d`Affaires Kristen Bauer spoke to 40 locally elected Indonesian officials and several officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs as part of the Rajawali Foundation`s "Leadership Transformation in Indonesia" programme. She applauded the program and said it helps strengthen people-to-people ties through international educational exchange. She highlighted some of the recent accomplishments of the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership. Earlier, on September 13, Kristen Bauer planted a tree at the closing ceremony of the ASEAN Defence Ministers` Meeting-Plus Counter-Terrorism Exercise, held at the International Peace and Security Centre in Sentul. William F. Wechsler, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism, and Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro also participated in the event. Nearly 900 military personnel from 18 countries - 10 ASEAN member nations, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, South Korea, India and Russia - took part in the five-day exercise. The embassy also organized a visit to Jambi recently. During an outreach visit to Sumatra, from September 11 to 13, embassy officers met the mayor of Jambi and the provincial governor`s staff. During these meetings, they had an opportunity to highlight the progress of projects associated with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), launched last year. The officers also met local NGOs, journalists, student groups, and the alumni of the US exchange programs and spoke about the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership at Jambi University.
