Information minister attends media forum

Manama, Mar. 15 (BNA): The First symposium of the Sport Media Forum convened today at the Gulf Hotel in the presence of Information Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi and senior officials from the GCC sport media institutions. The seminar is part of the 14th Gulf Radio and Television Festival, currently held in Bahrain. Saudi broadcaster Turki Al Ajma, Kuwaiti media person Satam Al Sahli and Emirati media person Mohammed Al Jookar were among the keynote speakers. Participants in the symposium underlined the need for the sport media to adhere to the principles of professionalism and neutrality given its growing influential role on the public. They pointed out the need to prevent fanaticism by conducting awareness campaigns and holding violators of the sport media ethics accountable for any transgression. Saudi presenter Turki Al-Ajama stressed the crucial role of modern social media websites, urging, however, caution and impartiality in dealing with sport issues. Al-Ajama call for tough laws to clampdown on violators and combat sport bigotry and promote the spirit of fair play. Kuwaiti journalist Sattam Al-Sahly underlined the leverage of the sport media which reaches out to a wide audience, particularly the young generation. Moderating the forum, Raja'alla Al-Salmi underscored the importance of promote the spirit of fair-play among the sport community.Dr. Abdulla Abu Ras addressed the session stressing the importance of the theme and the discussions. He also thanked the minister for his keenness on attending the first forum on sport media.
