Inspection on illegal raft resorts, resorts in Kanchanaburi

KANCHANABURI, May 7 (TNA) -- Thanya Netithammakun, director-general of Department of National Park, Wildlife and Flora, has inspected several resports, raft resorts illegally built inside a national park in Kanchanaburi province bordering Myanmar. The inspection was made following media reports that many illegal rafts were constructed on River Kwai and resorts built to cater tourists in the province. On Saturday, Mr Thanya inspected several raft resprts at Kwai Noi River which is located inside the Sai Yok National Park. The operator of the unlicensed raft resorts apparently built a pool and obstructed the water flow, causing flooding frequently inside the park. He also found that several other operators also built permanent rafts floating on Kwai Noi River which were against the law. Mr Thanya said he would discuss with related government agencies in providing proper resort zoning in the area for the tourists. (TNA)
