International Malay-Polynesian Conference 2012 Ends with Several Resolutions

SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan,Malaysia), July 7 (Bernama) -- The International Malay-Polynesian Conference ended on Friday with a pledge to implement several resolutions in various fields, organising chairman Prof Dr Kamaruddin Kachar said. He said among the resolutions were to set up a Malay-Polynesian International Community Secretariat with plans and activities that would benefit the Malay-Polynesian people across the world. The activities would involve all aspects including culture, language, education, tourism, research and development, agriculture, trade, traditional medicine and oceanography, he said. "The secretariat will be upgraded later as a valid organisation. Through it, we will introduce and expand the spirit of travelling among the younger generation, establish an online Malay-Polynesian cultural museum and a portal for Centre for Malay Studies," he told reporters here Friday. The resolutions tabled by Kamaruddin also covered the history of Malay-Polynesian ancestors, community and cultural progress, as well as economic and trade development. The two-day conference, which was organised by the Kuala Lumpur Perpatih Customs Organisation, Negeri Sembilan state government, Information Communication and Culture Ministry and Negeri Sembilan Museum Board, saw the participation of over 500 from 11 countries. It was held in conjunction with the Perpatih Customs Festival 2012 which will take place at the Seri Menanti Royal Museum, Kuala Pilah this weekend. -- BERNAMA
