IOM Mission in Qatar Issues Report Highlighting its Program
Doha, October 06 (QNA) -The Mission of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the State of Qatar highlighted its programs and accomplishments since the mission has embarked upon carrying out its tasks in September 2020 through a photo report (brochure) issued for this purpose.
The report reviews the mission's accomplishments since its inception in the State of Qatar, during a period of nearly two years, and reflects the leading humanitarian role of the State of Qatar, and displays the deep partnership of the mission with a wide spectrums of the country's institutions to further unify the efforts devoted to contributing to the cycle of development and promoting the community with its wide spectrums through implementing the national agenda in alignment with the sustainable development goals and the global compact for migration.
In her remark marking the issuance of the report, Chief of Mission of United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Qatar Iman Younis Ereiqat said that the mission embarked upon its work in the State of Qatar in September 2020 in a time the world was countering COVID-19 pandemic, adding that the goal and vision were emanating from the mission's determination to support the national agenda of the State of Qatar and contribute to proceeding with the achievement of a constant progress in the Immigration Department, including the sustainable development goals and global compact for migration, pointing out that IOM armed and backed by its global expertise that spanned decades, has embarked upon its work, during this primary period to provide the technical support to governments, in IOM's belief in making the real difference to be positively reflected on the community and the state in general.
She considered IOM's operation period in Qatar as vital in building confidence and sharing the knowledge and joint planning, expressing her pride for the success made to build the bridges with the government of the State of Qatar and various segments of the Qatari community, noting that the mission laid the foundations to build partnerships with a number of government institutions, public and private sectors, media, local charity societies, academic media and diplomatic corps, as well as the associated UN agencies, expressing her thanks to the government and people of the State of Qatar for the hospitality, good reception and open doors IOM mission has received.
The report underlines that IOM mission has held six training courses for the national cadres in collaboration with the government partners in order to promote the general concept of the rights of migrant workers and support the national efforts in the fight against trafficking in persons, where over 172 representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MoL, MoPH, National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) and National Commission for Education, Culture and Science had benefited from these courses.
The report indicated that during this mentioned period, IOM mission has signed two grant agreements with Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) to support the people most in need of assistance in northwest Syria and Lebanon, It has also operationalized its partnerships with national institutions by concluding two agreements with the QRCS and Qatar Charity as implementer partners for social and psychological support services for the evacuees of Afghan citizens, in addition to organizing closed workshops with partners in QC, Education Above All Foundation and Qatar Airways to identify potential areas for mutual cooperation.
