Iran-Lebanon Agree To Set Up Joint Committee To Promote Media Co-op

Beirut, March 14, IRNA - Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Ali Akbar Javanfekr and Lebanese Information Minister Walid Daouq in a meeting on Tuesday agreed to set up a joint committee to promote media cooperation and exchange news delegations between the two states. Javanfekr, who doubles as presidential advisor for press affairs, said his visit aims to convey the greetings of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the Lebanese nation and government and review ways of developing IRNA activities in Beirut. Iran-Lebanon media cooperation is of high importance, he said, noting that his institute is ready to promote cooperation with the country’s national news agency and other sections of media and press. He also said that the two countries have numerous common interests; therefore, they should increase their collaboration. Daouq, for his part, described Tehran-Beirut cooperation as positive and useful and said that excellent meetings on culture and media have been held between the two states. Characterizing Iran as Lebanon’s friend and brother, he also said, “We are keen on promoting media cooperation with Iran, IRNA in particular.” The Lebanese minister also hoped that the country’s media delegations will be able to visit Iran and get acquainted with its achievements./end
