Iranian Darvishi’s album of film and theater compositions unveiled

TEHRAN,Jan.9(MNA) – A music album featuring a selection of compositions on cinema and theater composed by the giant of traditional Iranian music Mohammadreza Darvishi was unveiled during a ceremony at the Iranian Artists Forum on Saturday. The ceremony began with music from the films “Blackboard” (Samira Makhmalbaf), “Bemani” (Dariush Mehrjuii), “Journey to Kandahar” (Mohsen Makhmalbaf) and “When We Are All Sleep” (Bahram Beizaii), all composed by Darvishi. A short film including a brief speech by Darvishi was next screened for the audience in which he said, “Some of the music I have composed for films was sometimes harder than making the film itself, but gradually I reached a point where I was able to make use of only two or three instruments, that is, I achieved a type of collage in my works.” Music expert Hamidreza Ardalan next talked about the music of Darvishi and said, “Part of Darvishi’s work, which is known as modern music, is driven by the academic lessons impressed upon him by his university education. “Darvishi’s music is related to Iran, its land, language and nation. Darvishi left the university and traveled to villages across the country to revive the regional music just exactly when it was fading away,” he said. Ardalan continued, “He is a composer who is interested in modern thoughts and is able to connect the past to the present. We hear sounds in Darvishi’s compositions which are a direct product of his mind.” Ardalan added that there exists endless sorrow in his music even if an individual listens to it 20 times in 20 different moods, “but I must emphasize that his music is not void of hope.” The ceremony continued with a short speech delivered by the director of the Association of Iranian Documentary Filmmakers Mohammadreza Moqaddasian. Darvishi’s Music is rather miraculous for me, a miracle which tries to give advice, he said. “I have traveled a lot with Darvishi. He creates music with everything even a piece of stone. He knows the musicians if even they are living behind a wall. Wherever Darvishi has been, musicians have been recognized who have been great and Darvishi has given them identity,” he added. Beizaii in a message he had submitted to Darvishi also congratulated him for the album release. He reminded everyone that he always had asked for hard works from Darvishi and he produced, “complicated works which might even confuse most people, but he always has managed to make some of the best.” Filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi also present at the ceremony praised Darvishi’s efforts in collecting such treasure. The ceremony was concluded with a short speech by Darvishi who expressed his gratitude to all helped him in his project.
