Iranian director to stage adaptation of Beckett’s “Quad” in Estonia
TEHRAN, Jan.4(MNA) – “1313, Note 8”, an adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s “Quad”, is to go on stage by Iranian director Homayun Ghanizadeh in Estonia in the coming months.
The play has been produced with actors from R.A.A.A.M theater group from Estonia and it is also due to be staged in Finland as well, Ghanizadeh told on Tuesday.
Samuel Beckett’s Quad was written in 1981 and first appeared in print in 1984. The work is described as a piece for four players and has also been called a “ballet for four people.”
Ghanizadeh said that the play might go on stage at the 30th Fajr International Theater Festival. “The secretariat of the festival is negotiating with the producer in Estonia to reach a final agreement,” he added.
The director had previously staged Sophocles “Antigone” with the actors from Estonia in the 29th edition of Fajr festival last year. “The play is due to go on stage in a theater festival in Poland this year,” he said.
Ghanizadeh staged “Caligula”, Albert Camus’s play on the Roman emperor, at Tehran’s Iranshahr Theater Complex in 2010 and it was warmly received then.
Ghanizadeh won a best director award at the 25th Fajr International Theater Festival in 2007 for his “Icarus and Daedalus”, a Greek myth, which was then invited by German director Roberto Ciulli to be performed in Germany.
