Iranian National Commission for UNESCO exhibits artworks on Persian Gulf

TEHRAN,May 14(MNA) – An exhibition of creative artworks with the theme of the Persian Gulf was opened at the gallery of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO here on Saturday. Painter and researcher Akram Khatibi has created all the artworks with natural sands she gathered from the region. Khatibi’s special tableau of Persian Gulf and a plaque bearing an image of the Persian Gulf were also unveiled at a ceremony, which was attended by Secretary General of the commission Mohammadreza Saeidabadi and a number of Iranian art lovers. Saeidabadi called Khatibi an artist who has done her job with all love and faith and her unique style is filled with great love to her homeland. The artist has made use of the colorful sands of Hormoz Island in southern Iran in her works, “The Persian Gulf tableau is made of Persian Gulf sand, thin layers of gold, colorful sand of Hormoz Island as well as pieces of lapis lazuli and turquoise,” Khatibi said. She added that it took four years to complete Persian Gulf tableau and that she has created the tableau with all her love to Iran. Director of Abu Rayhan Biruni Research Center Kianush Kiani also present at the ceremony pointed out that Persian Gulf is not a mere name, but a culture, which will not have any other name but Persian Gulf. Khatabi has displayed her works in different countries and this is her first exhibit in Iran. She has previously donated a selection of 30 works to the Iranian National Library and Archives (INLA). The exhibit is displaying a few other works by Khatibi including “Imam Reza (AS)” tableau, and will close today at the gallery located at No.15, First Alley, South Razan St., Mirdamad Blvd.
