BANYUWANGI, E Java, Oct. 2 (Antara) - Italian racer Davide Rebellin emerged as the overall champion of International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen (ITdBI) 2017 cycling race that ended in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Saturday.
The racer, who was grouped in the Kuwaiti team Cartuchoes, made the fastest record in the best cycling race in Indonesia.
Amir Kolahdouzhagh from Pishgaman Cycling Team of Iran finished second, and Victor Nino Corredor from Sapura Cycling Team came third.
Although Rebellin was only able to finish fourth in the last or fourth stage, he could still retain his yellow jersey or overall champion title.
""In the last stage, I only tried to maintain my stamina so that I would remain in the group," he stated after the race.
In the last stage, Iranian racer Arvin Modazamigodarzi from Pishgaman Cycling Team finished first, clocking 2:8:17, followed by Marcelo Felioe from 7Eleven Road Bike of the Philippines and Selamat Juangga from KFC Cycling Team.
Renellin admitted that ITdBI was difficult to conquer, especially its third stage which is "the hell route" of the event.
"The third stage is very difficult. There are a lot of ascents. Therefore, the most important thing is to maintain the stamina," he noted.
"I am glad I could win in Banyuwangi. I will join again next year," he added.
Banyuwangi district head Abdullah Azwar remarked that this event, which is the sixth so far, was aimed to revive public participation.
"From this event, solidarity is enlivened. People work together to make it a success," he added.
He revealed that he was satisfied with the organization of the event this year, as there were lot of new things that were organized.
"From the organization point of view, I am satisfied because a lot of new things have been happening, such as the start line, which was located at an Islamic boarding school, cocoa village route, and others, besides the best participants," he pointed out.
