Jeenbekov: In current conditions, free movement of goods within EAEU has become relevant

Bishkek, May 19, 2020 / Kabar/. “In the current conditions, the free movement of goods within the EAEU has become urgent for ensuring food security,” Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said today during a regular meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC).
The head of state drew attention to the issue of removing barriers in the internal customs territory of the Union, the President’s press service said.
“We have reached an agreement on the creation of green corridors for the supply of essential goods. Despite this, some member states of the Union tighten control and introduce restrictions on the supply of products,” Jeenbekov said.
The President emphasized that the existing mechanism for removing barriers is inefficient due to the lack of sufficient powers of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
Noting that the decisions of the Commission on the removal of barriers by some member states are not fully implemented, President Jeenbekov proposed to give a right to the EEC Board to appeal to the EAEU Court to impose penalties for removing barriers.
The president also proposed to consider the possibility of ensuring free transit of goods coming from Europe and Ukraine to the Kyrgyz Republic.
The session of the SEEC was held today, May 19, in the mode of videoconference. SEEC members are the Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia.
The President of Moldova also attended the meeting as the head of the observer country.
