Justice Collaborator In Tax Case Walks Free From Jail

Jakarta, Jan 11 (ANTARA) - A convict in a big tax scandal Vincentius Amin Sutanto, former tax manager of oil palm company PT Asian Agri, walked free from his prison today after being granted big remission. "Today we give him a reward after the Justice and Human Right Minister signed his release on parole," Deputy Minister for Justice and Human Rights Denny Indrayana said here on Friday. Vincent already received earlier a religious remission and a today set him free. A district court in Jakarta sentenced him in 2008 to an 11 years` imprisonment for helping PT Asian Agri embezzling tax causing a loss of Rp1.259 trillion to the state. Toward the end of 2012, his sentenced was cut to two years with three years on probation by the Supreme Court for agreeing to serve as justice collaborator that led to a fine of Rp2.5 trillion slapped on PT Asian Agri. "Without remission and parole Vincent would have to stay in jail until 2017," Denny said. Vincent already served two third of his sentence and he fully met the criteria as a justice collaborator based on the Government Regulation No. 99 of 2012. "The granting of remission as justice collaborator has been studied and he was not the main perpetrator and he showed commitment to cooperate with the law investigators," Danny said. The remission and parole for Vincent is expected to encourage extraordinary criminals to agree to become a justice collaborator, he added.
