Katara Opens Al Sadu Exhibition and Permanent Center

Doha, December 14 (QNA) - Al Sadu exhibition and permanent center was opened in Katara Building 13, serving as a permanent exhibition and an educational center at the same time to teach the Sadu craft. General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, stressed the importance of Al Sadu craft in the Qatari society and heritage which gave rise to the idea of establishing Al Sadu Center to serve as a permanent place for enthusiasts for this craft; noting that the center will organize training workshops for those wishing to learn the Sadu craft, as it will serve as an educational and exhibition venue at the same time. Dr. Al Sulaiti added that Sadu is a distinctive artistic craft which is not easy to master. He hoped that the Center would host Sadu exhibitions for participants from Qatar and the GCC countries in order to exchange expertise. Amal Al Ali, the official in charge of Al Sadu Center in Katara, said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the Center includes visual art in the Sadu, training workshops targeting women and girls and other category interested in the Saud, including students to display their loom and yarn Saud's work in the center. Al Ali added that the Centre has a wide range of women craftsmen specialized in training in Saud, to train interested women. She pointed out that they have a participant from Iraq presenting Saud works reflecting Iraq's ancient Sumerians and Babylonians civilizations to promote cultural exchange among Sadu professionals. Sadu is a wool knitting craft and depends primarily on women's effort. Beit (Home) Al Sadu industry is part of a long-standing artistic tradition rooting deeply in history. The Sadu craft was very popular before the discovery of the oil, and the sewing tools are still in use now, such as spinners, looms, and chainsaws. The Sadu is characterized by its varied bright colors and beautiful decorations, that also have different social connotations and are inspired by the environment. (QNA)
