Kazakh president does not intend to turn Astana into city of millions of residents

Kazakhstan, Astana, April 22 / Trend, D. Mukhtarov /
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev does not intend to turn Astana into a city home to millions.
The president made this statement at a meeting on the further development of the capital today.
"Astana's population is about 800,000 inhabitants," he said. "I have no intentions of increasing it up to several million."
He stressed that new buildings and houses will be built in Astana in the future, but not to stimulate population growth.
"New buildings and houses will be built in the future to provide the country with necessary facilities, not to spark population growth," he said. "Every house must have special architecture that improves the city, unlike how dormitory housing was built for everyone during Kruschev's tenure. The government, together with the Akim must think how to limit the increase in the population without necessity. Every house must be unique in its architecture and of high quality. It is necessary to allow the constructing the houses and the allotment of land plots."
