Abu Dhabi, July 16, 2013 (WAM) - The Khalifa International Date Palm Award has invited professional and amateur photographers to submit their entries for its international photography competition on date palm trees titled "Date Palms Through the Eyes of the World". Dr. Abdul Wahab Zayed, Award Secretary-General, announced that entries for the 5th edition will be accepted until December 31st, 2013. He added that all photographers around the world are welcome to participate in this competition in recognition of the date palm tree, thus strengthening the role of the photographer in enriching the country's memory, revitalising its national heritage and promoting sustainable development. The first of its kind in the world, the competition covers the date palm tree in all its facets, including products, tools, agriculture conditions and derivatives. A scientific and technical committee will judge the contested photographs and announce the winners in February 2014. A special exhibition will be held for the winning works within the Award celebrations of its fifth cycle in February 2014. The first prize winner will receive Dh 20,000, while second and third place award winners receive Dh15,000 and Dh10,000 respectively. Launched in partnership with the Abu Dhabi International Photographic Society (ADIPS), the competition aims to engage the art of photography as a tool to improve public awareness of the importance of date palms, creating a platform to exchange experiences among world photographers, exposing the tourism potential, as well as the environmental and heritage capabilities of the date palm tree and as a result, strengthening the relationship between man, land and agriculture. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
