King hails Muharraq status as Capital of Islamic Culture

Manama, Jan. 28 (BNA): HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today at the Sakhir Palace received illustrious guests of Muharraq’s celebration as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 on the sidelines of their participation in the event. HM the King welcomed Bahrain’s guests, expressing appreciation of the support of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (ISESCO) for Bahrain’s cultural programmes and projects. HM the King hailed naming Muharraq as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018, which reflects its historical significance and human heritage. He said the city has earned the honour for its educational and cultural movement through history. HM the King noted the quality of openness to various civilizations and religions enjoyed by the Bahraini society for long decades, as well as Bahrain’s keenness to maintain friendship relations with the world. HM the king lauded the existing cooperation between Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquity (BACA) and the ISESCO, as well as the ISESCO human role in promoting the Islamic communities. ISESCO Director Dr. Abdulaziz Al Twaijri presented HM the King with the celebrations shield of Muharraq Capital of Islamic Culture 2018. He praised Bahrain’s ongoing development and ancient civilization. The guests commended Bahrain’s cultural and heritage achievements, as well as cultural monuments that reflect the originality of Bahraini people. The also noted Muharraq special status as a historical city of human heritage.
