KPA: More Than 11,800 People Prone To HIV/AIDS Infection In Manado

Manado, Jan 16 (ANTARA) - Manado`s AIDs Control Agency (KPA) said more than 11,800 people in this North Sulawesi capital are prone to HIV/AIDS infection. Manado has around 830 prostitutes, 1,190 prostitution related workers, more than 7,500 men frequenting prostitution centers , more than 1,840 transvestites and homosexuals and 460 drug addicts - all potential victims of the deadly virus , Manado KPA program manager Sonny Winda said. Most of the people are found in the sub-districts of Wenang, Sario and Malalayang, Sonny said. He said KPA collected the data to make it easier to control and to eradicate the virus. KPA has distributed condoms at hot spots and schools to help reduce the spread of the virus and holds routine medical checks at night entertainment centers in the city.
