KPK Unearths More Money In Constitutional Court Chief's Home

Jakarta, Oct 4 (Antara) - Officials from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have unearthed more money hidden in the house of the recently arrested Chief of Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar. "We discovered Rp2.7 billion that had been stashed away in two bags. We also confiscated some documents from Akil Mochtar`s house," Johan Budi, a spokesman for the anti-graft commission said during a press conference on Friday. KPK had named Mochtar a suspect in a bribery case following his arrest on Wednesday night. He was arrested after being caught red handed while receiving up to $US260 thousand from a Golkar party lawmaker named CHN and a businessman called CN. Later that night, two other accomplices--HB, a head district from the Central Kalimantan province and DH, a businessman--were also arrested. Budi stated at the press conference that the case was probably related to the elections of a district head in the Central Kalimantan province. In addition to these charges, Mochtar is also suspected to have received bribes from another party in connection with the general election in the Lebak district of Banten province. "We are still investigating these two cases. Up till now, no other constitutional judge has been named a suspect, but it all depends on the final result of investigation" Budi pointed out. Mochtar was appointed the Chief of the Constitutional Court six months ago, replacing Mahfud MD. However, Mochtar had been working as a Constitutional Judge since 2009. Before starting his career as a judge, he was a politician working for the Golkar party.
