Kyrgyz FM takes part in 26th meeting of Ministerial Council of ECO member countries

Bishkek, Jan. 25, 2023. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev took part in the 26th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported. According to the agenda, the participants considered issues of enhancing regional cooperation in the areas of trade, transport, investment, green economy, digitalization, energy, and food. The results of the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the ECO were summed up. In his speech, the head of the Kyrgyz delegation stressed that Kyrgyzstan supports the activities of the ECO as a regional mechanism for multilateral cooperation in the economic sphere, and is also interested in building up trade and economic ties with the member states of the Organization. Due to the fact that one of the priority areas of joint activities in the ECO is the transport and logistics sector, Kulubaev supported the implementation of projects for the development of the East-West and North-South transport corridors, which open access to the seaports of the Gulf for the countries of Central Asia. Along with this, the importance for the Kyrgyz side of the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, included in the ECO Action Program for the development of transport and communications in the ECO region, was noted. In addition, the minister also informed the meeting participants about the "green" initiatives of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. At the suggestion of the Kyrgyz side, the final document of the 26th meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, known as the Tashkent Communiqué, supported the implementation of the resolution of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly "Sustainable mountain development: on declaring 2023-2027 as the "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions", which was initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic.
