Kyrgyz MPs to consider ratification of documents on accession to Eurasian Economic Union

BISHKEK, May 20. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan’s parliament is due on Wednesday to consider ratification of documents on the country’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), a spokesperson for the Supreme Council has said. The draft law "On ratification of international agreements on accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union" has been submitted to the parliament by the government, Tolgonai Stamaliyeva said. On Tuesday, the draw law was approved by all the respective committees, including on the international affairs, economic and fiscal policy, as well as the committee on budget and finances, she said. The parliament is unlikely to postpone the consideration of the issue until Thursday and is expected to vote on it later in the day in all the three readings, the spokesperson said. "As the draft law has great importance for the country then it is most likely that the parliamentarians will take a decision within a day," Stamaliyeva said. However, the ratification of the draft law does not mean that the Central Asian republic will automatically open its borders to the other member-states of the new economic bloc that came into force on January 1, 2015. Kyrgyz Economics Minister Oleg Pankratov said earlier the country expected that this could occur in the near future and was making every effort in this direction. Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev signed the key deal on the country’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union in late December 2014 in Moscow. On May 8, while in the Russian capital, he signed the two remaining protocols supplementing the treaty. Atambayev said Kyrgyzstan has fulfilled the major tasks before it in the shortest possible time needed for the full accession to the economic bloc that comprises Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Armenia. "I am convinced that the Eurasian Economic Union will become a common fortune and benefit for our nations," Atambayev said. "The Union will strengthen stability on the Eurasian space," he added.
