Kyrgyz Parliament speaker meets with chairman of Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan

Bishkek, Jan. 24, 2023 / Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiev met with Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbaev, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported. During the meeting, issues of building up political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan were discussed, including an exchange of views on issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation. Nurlanbek Shakiev noted that the two countries are closely connected by ties of fraternal unity, good neighborliness and reliable strategic partnership. The Kyrgyz speaker congratulated the interlocutor on the successful completion of the elections to the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, and also dwelled in detail on the aspects of inter-parliamentary cooperation. “Last year, a number of meetings were held at the level of chairmen of the two countries' parliaments. Along with this, a joint off-site meeting was held between the relevant committees on international affairs. And today's official visit is also of great historical significance for both countries,” Nurlanbek Shakiev noted, emphasizing the importance of organizing mutual visits of parliamentary delegations and parliamentary friendship groups. In particular, he touched upon the activities of parliaments within the framework of such international platforms as TurkPA, CIS IPA and CSTO PA. In addition, the parties discussed trade and economic relations, outlined the goals set to increase the trade turnover between the two countries to 2 billion US dollars. Among them, such proposals were voiced as the creation of a joint industrial trade and logistics complex, the construction of the Cholpon-Ata-Almaty highway, the resumption of the operation of the Kichi-Kapka-Besagash checkpoint, as well as the holding of the first interregional forum. The issues of removing obstacles at the border were also discussed. “It is necessary to take all the above issues under parliamentary control in order to implement them as soon as possible,” suggested Nurlanbek Shakiev, and also noted the need to take into account the legal status of Kyrgyz migrants when considering bills in the field of migration policy of Kazakhstan. In turn, the chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan thanked for the warm welcome and expressed interest in the further development of comprehensive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, and also dwelled in detail on the positive developments in bilateral cooperation, including drawing attention to the important decisions taken during the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym- Zhomart Tokayev in the Kyrgyz Republic in May last year. In particular, he mentioned that at that time a capsule was laid for the construction of a joint Kyrgyz-Kazakh industrial trade and logistics complex. “I am sure that the implementation of this project will contribute to the growth of the investment base and the establishment of direct contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries,” Ashimbaev said. Concerning the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, Ashimbaev indicated the willingness of the Kazakh side to take part in the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP. In addition, the chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan paid special attention to the issues of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, naming as priority areas the intensification of interaction between relevant committees and parliamentary friendship groups, the exchange of experience, the development of a roadmap for the development of parliamentarism, as well as strengthening interaction within the framework of inter-parliamentary organizations. At the end of his speech, Maulen Ashimbaev expressed support for all the initiatives expressed, and also suggested developing cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In particular, in order to perpetuate the memory and cultural and moral education of the younger generation, he proposed to erect monuments to the hero of the epic Manas and the great writer Chingiz Aitmatov in the city of Astana.
