Kyrgyzstan ratifies protocol to agreement on status and conditions of stay of Russian military base in Kant

President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov signed the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On ratification of the Protocol on amendments and additions to the Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation on the status and conditions of a combined Russian military base on the territory of Kyrgyzstan dated September 20, 2012, signed on March 28, 2019 in the city of Bishkek.” The press service of the Kyrgyz President reported that law was adopted by the Kyrgyz Parliament on June 11, 2020. In accordance with the Agreement the area used by the Russian side will be increased by 58.32 hectares. In accordance with the Agreement of 2012, the area of ​​land leased by the Russian side was 866.2 hectares. According to the results of the inventory, the area actually used by the Russian side amounted to 924.52 ha, which is 58.32 ha more than indicated in the Agreement. After the entry into force of the Protocol, the parties organize work to reimburse the Kyrgyz Republic for the amount of the rent for the land plots actually used by the Russian Federation starting September 20, 2012. As part of the protocol, it is planned to reconstruct the runway at the expense of the Russian side. Upon expiration of the Agreement, these facilities will be returned to the Kyrgyz side. In addition, runway facilities are included in the list of shared facilities. In order to develop cooperation in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (hereinafter - UAVs)in Kyrgyzstan in the interests of ensuring the security of the states of the parties, the Russian side plans to deploy drones at the Russian aviation base. At the same time, after the signing and entry into force of the Protocol, the parties will sign an interdepartmental document determining the procedure for using drones.
