Labor Minister, ILO Director General Discuss Aspects of Joint Cooperation

Doha, December 03 (QNA) - HE Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri met here on Saturday with HE Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo, who is currently visiting Doha. The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation between the State of Qatar and the ILO and means to boost them in the future. After the meeting, HE the Minister and the ILO Director visited one of the Ministry-overseen fan zones in the Industrial Area. They took part in the activities presented there with the aim to provide all means for workers to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The two officials also conversed with a number of expatriate workers about their experiences and how they enjoy the World Cup vibes. HE the Minister of Labor, further, briefed the ILO Director on the facilities provided by the Ministry in some of the fan zones, stressing the importance of providing such services to an important segment that have directly contributed to Qatar's success in hosting the World Cup through continuous and hard work over the past years. His Excellency explained that the Ministry of Labor attaches great importance to the entertainment activities for the expatriate workers, through organizing events accompanying the tournament, pointing out that there are entertainment events that are not limited to the World Cup, but throughout the year, and on various occasions, such as Qatar National Day, or the Sports Day to name a few. HE the Minister and the visiting official also paid a visit to 'Barahat Al Janoub' workers accommodation complex, which is managed by Barwa Real Estate under the Ministry's specifications and requirements for workers housing. Barahat Al Janoubis has a capacity of more than 67 thousand workers, and is expected to start receiving workers in the second quarter of 2023. (QNA)
