Latest blood therapies highlighted

Manama, June 4 (BNA): Jordanian Blood Diseases, Stem Cell Transplant Consultant Dr. Eyad Ahmed Al-Ibrahimi delivered a key lecture at the College of Health Sciences.
Bahrain’s largest hospital, Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) doctors and nursing staff attended and got updated on latest global trends in the treatment of blood diseases, particularly sickle cell anemia, Thalassemia, bone marrow and stem cell transplant.
Dr. Al-Ibrahimi is in Bahrain as part of the Visiting Doctor programme, being implemented by the Health Ministry at the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa.
He examined a group of patients, visited the Genetic Blood Diseases Centre and met Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia Patient Care chairman Zakareya Ebrahim Al-Kadhem, in the presence of SMC Deputy Medical Chief Dr. Rajaa Al-Youssef and other personnel.
Children suffering from genetic blood diseases met Dr. Al-Ibrahimi who supervised their treatment over the past years. Child patients’ parents and other medical personnel.
Dr. Al-Ibrahimi conducted successful bone marrow transplants on 12 Bahraini children in Jordan over the past years – 2 cases of leukemia, 5 cases of Thalassemia, 1 case of bone marrow failure syndrome, 1 case of Bone marrow fibrosis, 1 case of Gideak Hakashy Syndrome and one case of Autologous bone marrow transplant.
