Local Film Producers Must Improve Quality To Compete Globally

KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 (Bernama) -- Local film producers must improve the quality of their films to compete with foreign films and break into the international entertainment industry said Deputy Minister of Information Communications and Culture Maglin D'Cruz. He said since the government was aware of the economic contribution from the film industry, the government provided financial assistance to the production of films. "As such, every film producer must improve the quality of their films so that it can compete with foreign films in the box office," he told reporters after launching the "Oh Mak Kau" (OMK) produced by Star Scope Production Sdn Bhd here Wednesday. Star Scope Production chairman Rear Admiral (rtd) Yaacob Daud said he hoped the film produced by his company would contribute towards the film industry of the country. "I believe in healthy competition because it will in return enhance the quality of films produced locally," he said. The film OMK, a comedy that surrounds mysterious happenings in a village due to the presence of a group of gangsters, is directed and starred by young actor Nurul Ain Nordin, 23. The film, produced at a cost of RM1.6 million which also stars comedian Didie Alias, Sepahtu group and Syamsul Yusof, is expected to hit the cinemas by December. (US$1=RM3.02)
