"Majority Of Malaysians Understand, Accept 1Malaysia"
KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Some 80 per cent of Malaysians understand
the concept of 1Malaysia mooted by Prime Minister Najib Razak, said Special
Affairs Department director-general, Fuad Hassan.
He said the figure was based on the latest survey carried out by the
department in collaboration with the Information Department under the
Information, Communications and Culture Ministry.
"Our findings showed that the people understand and accept the concept owing
to the numerous programmes being held to explain it, as well as the effect of
the numerous 1Malaysia initiatives such as assistance, products and services
provided by the government.
"People no longer have any hesitation to talk about 1Malaysia, and they also
feel a sense of belonging among them," he told reporters after delivering a talk
on the 1Malaysia vision at a seminar, here on Saturday.
Some 750 principals, headmasters and senior teachers from Kuala Lumpur and
Putrajaya attended the seminar.
Education deputy director-general Dr Amin Senin was also present.
Fuad said the remaining 20 per cent had yet to fully understand the concept
because the information programmes had yet to cover them in a holistic manner.
Political factor, with certain quarters employing provocation to influence
the people to reject the vision, also contributed to the percentage, he said.
