Malaysia And International Community Ready To Support Yemen

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is ready, within its capacity and ability to cooperate with other international community, to support Yemen in addressing the broad range of challenges facing the country. Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said Malaysia was willing to share its experience and provide assistance in certain areas including technical cooperation and capacity building. "The cooperation is under Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme, which is a partnership in higher learning and anti-terrorism," he said in a statement on a working visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on May 23, here. Anifah was in Riyadh to attend the Friends of Yemen Ministerial Meeting chaired by Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Wednesday. The meeting aimed at garnering international support and assistance in helping Yemen address the broad range of challenges including politics, economy, humanitarian and security. Also discussed during the meeting was the latest development on the Peace Agreement signed on Nov 23 last year, to end the conflict in Yemen through a peaceful transition of power and to restore stability to the country. A total of 36 countries including international organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) secretariat had pa his rticipated in the meeting. During the visit, Anifah also met Prince Saud Al-Faisal to discuss bilateral issues as well as the Bersih 3.0 rally held in Mecca and Medina on April 26. "I hope this isolated incident will not tarnish the good image of our people and country," he added. He also received a courtesy call from Algeria Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci to discuss bilateral issues between the two countries. -- BERNAMA
