Malaysia-Britain Agree To Continue Cooperation In Higher Education
SEMENYIH (Selangor, Malaysia), April 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Britian
today agreed to continue cooperation in tertiary education, and several
additional areas which include research and innovation.
Higher Education Minister of Malaysia Mohamed Khaled Nordin and David
Willetts, Britain's Minister for Universities and Science, signed the
Malaysia-United Kingdom Joint Statement on Higher Education and Skills for the
purpose at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus here Thursday.
Both parties pledged to continue to support an emerging partnership in the
context of the memorandum of understanding, and to consider collaboration in
several additional areas, which includes higher education, research and
innovation and a new scholarship scheme.
Other areas include policy and reform challenges, leadership, further
education and skills development, and monitoring partners in education.
A Memorandum of Understanding in the field of education was initially signed
between both countries in 2007.
Currently, there are 14,528 Malaysian students studying in Britain, 11,074
of them privately-sponsored and the other 3,454 government-sponsored.
There are 1,441 British students studying in Malaysia, 1,422 in private
tertiary institutions and 19 in public tertiary institutions.
