Malaysia, Brunei to Strengthen Primary Healthcare Linkages

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam have agreed to further explore areas of collaboration related to the strengthening of primary healthcare. They reaffirmed a committment to continue health cooperation between the two countries as agreed upon in a memorandum of agreement inked between the respective governments in 2006. This was contained in a joint statement adopted at the sixth bilateral meeting between the health ministers of Malaysia and Brunei in Bandar Seri Begawan on Tuesday. The respective delegations were headed by Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai and his Bruneian counterpart, Pehin Dato Adanan Yusof. "Both ministers appreciated the progress made on the implementation of the existing joint work plans covering four major areas of cooperation namely information exchange, capacity building, research and joint operations," the statement said. They also acknowledged the development of joint work plans in two new areas of cooperation, namely health tourism and the application of information and communication technology in the health sector of both countries. -- BERNAMA
