Malaysia releases 3 Thai policemen

BANGKOK, Aug 29 (TNA) – Malaysia authorities signed the order to release three Thai police, arrested for trespassing into the Malaysian territorial water, said Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon. They will be sent back to Thailand today or tomorrow. Three plainclothes policemen from Satun province were detained in Malaysia after they attempted to arrest a Malaysian fishing trawler in the Malaysian water. Initially, Gen Prawit said they were suspended from duties for further investigation as the initial probe found that they actually trespassed into the Malaysia water territory. When they return home, the trio could face both disciplinary and criminal punishment. The investigation is under way whether they reap benefit from fishermen or not after Malaysia has charged them for acting as pirates in the Malaysian water. The three are police from Satun Provincial Police Station and did not wear uniforms and carried weapons to arrest the Malaysian fishing vessel. (TNA)
