Malaysia Selected To Remain A Member Of The Commission On The Limits Of The Continental Shelf

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has been selected to remain as a member of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf for another five-year period. This follows the selection of the Malaysian candidate to the commission, Dr Mazlan Madon, at the 22nd meeting of State Parties to the United nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in New York on Wednesday, according to statement issued by the Foreign Ministry Thursday. Malaysian has been a member of the commission since 1997. Dr Mazlan, who is Petronas head of Geoscience, will sit on the commission until 2017, replacing Abu Bakar Jaafar, who was the the Malaysian member of commission from 1997 to 2012. Candidates from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, the Cameroon, Russia, Georgia, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, Denmark and France were also selected as members of the commission. Pakistan and Spain will vie for the one seat left this Thursday in New York. -- BERNAMA
