Malaysian Exporters Urged To Comply With China's Rules And Regulations

BEIJING, April 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysian ambassador to China Datuk Iskandar Sarudin urged Malaysian exporters to maintain good quality of their products and comply with China's rules and regulations. "The Chinese authorities are concerned about rules, quality and standards of foreign products, so all parties should work together to maintain and improve the standards," the ambassador said. "Exporters should comply with the rules to prevent the government from having to intervene in solving the problems. "For instance, the prime minister had to intervene in solving China's temporary export ban on Malaysian bird's nests, which has caused the bird's nest industry in Malaysia with RM1.6 billion in market value to suffer from it." Iskandar said the embassy would like to help the small and medium industries to go global, which would help the government to achieve the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) goals. "When we say global, we refer to standards which are acceptable to the global market. In this aspect, China has the market, thus offering good demand for SME products," he said. The ambassador said it was time for Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enter China's third-tier and fourth-tier cities. He said Malaysian products had received good response from third-tier cities like Xi'an, which has a population of about 10 million, a good living standard and capable of accepting good-quality foreign products. He stressed that the SMEs should compromise with China's rules and protocols, but they should not compromise on product quality. -- BERNAMA
