Malaysian Government Urged to Introduce Demerit System for Singaporean Drivers

KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Bernama) -- A lawmaker on Thursday urged the government to introduce the demerit system for Singapore drivers to ensure they respected Malaysia's traffic laws. Raising the matter when Debating the Road Transport Act (Amendement) Bill 2012 in the Lower House of Parliament (Dewan Rakyat) on Thursday, National Front's (BN) MP, Abdul Rahman Dahlan said most Singapore drivers generally heeded the traffic laws in the city-state but "it was a different story when they came over to Malaysia". He also questioned the attitude of local enforcement agencies which was described as "soft" when it came to drivers from Singapore. The situation could be rectified by introducing the system, he said. -- BERNAMA
