Malaysian Has Enourmous Economic Potential, Says Latvian FM

SEPANG (Malaysia), April 26 (Bernama) -- Latvia is keen to take the bilateral cooperation with Malaysia to greater heights through political and economic dialogue, its Foreign Affairs Minister Edgars Rinkevics said. He said Malaysia has an enormous economic potential and that Latvia was looking forward to expanding the scope of economic cooperation between both countries. "(I've been) only a couple of hours in Malaysia; I'm impressed. We are very much looking forward to continuing the political and economic dialogue between Latvia and Malaysia," he told Bernama here Wednesday. Rinkevics, who arrived here Wednesday for a two-day visit, attended a high-tea hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohilan Pillay on behalf of Minister Anifah Aman. Rinkevics said during the meeting with Kohilan, they both discussed outstanding issues concerning the European Union and Malaysia. This is the first-high level visit from a Latvian official to Malaysia. Rinkevics is scheduled to call on International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed tomorrow and later attend a business matching programme between Latvian and Malaysian business leaders at the Malaysia External Trade Development Cooperation's (Matrade) exhibition and convention centre. He will then fly to Brunei to attend the European Union-Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting where leaders are expected to discuss plans for cooperation between both regions for the year 2013 to 2017. The Latvian Foreign Minister is on a working visit to Southeast Asia from today until May 2 which also covers Indonesia and Singapore. -- BERNAMA
