Malaysian PM Confident of SME's Potential in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU (Terengganu,Malaysia), June 21 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak has commended on the rapid development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Terengganu. Participating in a video conference with Chief Minister Ahmad Said in conjunction with the gathering of Terengganu entrepreneurs here on Thursday, the prime minister expressed his confident of the sector's potential in accelerating the state's economic growth. "Continue this effort, SMEs are vital to the economy. Terengganu has great potential and creative skills. I hope with the support of the federal government and the state government, the SMEs in the state are on the path to further growth," he said. Najib took part in the video conference after launching SMIDEX 2012 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here. On the other hand, Ahmad, who was speaking from Wisma Darul Iman after addressing about 2,000 entrepreneurs, took the opportunity to brief Najib on the SMEs development in Terengganu. Ahmad said the Terengganu Entrepreneur Development Foundation had so far disbursed loans amounted to RM20 million (US$6.3 million) to 1,800 entrepreneurs besides conducting entrepreneurial courses. Speaking to reporters later, Ahmad said Terengganu entrepreneurs also benefited from National Diligence Foundation(Tekun) and People's Trust Council(Mara). Najib also participated in a video conference with Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman. -- BERNAMA
