Malaysian PM Najib Attends Dinner To Honour British PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak ended his busy schedule Thursday by honouring his British counterpart David Cameron at a dinner organised by the Asean Business Club. Clad in a peach "baju Melayu" (traditional Malay outfit for men), Najib spent about 15 minutes with Cameron, club members and UK business delegation accompanying the British premier. The dinner was attended by 62 companies, from the Asean region, including Malaysia and their counterpart from the United Kingdom, who were also part of the business delegation headed by Cameron. The dinner, themed "The Economic Future of the UK and Asean" were also attended by International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Bank Negara Governor Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz and CIMB Group Group Chief Executive Nazir Razak. The visit, the first by Cameron after being elected Prime Minister in May 2010 and the first for Britain in almost 20 years, saw the reinforcement of bilateral relations between the two countries. Earlier, Najib and Cameron held bilateral talks for about an hour at Seri Perdana with discussions covering political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, education and training, science, technology and environment, as well as, defence and security. Cameron, who is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, will depart for Myanmar Friday, before heading home. His visit will precede that of Britain's Royal Couple Prince William and Princess Katherine, who will visit Johor (a southern state situated in Peninsular Malaysia) in September as part of their tour to several countries in conjunction with Queen Elizabeth II's diamond jubilee celebrations. -- BERNAMA NBB/NSF MAS VMD
