"Malaysian University Students Invited to Follow Parliament Sitting"

KUALA TERENGGANU (Terengganu,Malaysia), July 2 (Bernama) -- The Upper House of the Parliament (Dewan Negara) has taken a pro-active measure by extending invitations to all public universities in the country to send their students to follow Parliament sitting. President of the Senate, Abu Zahar Nik Ujang, said it was carried out this year and the response had been very good. He said that by attending parliament sitting, the university students would be exposed to politics, as well as the country's policies and laws. "University is a place for us to expose and explain on the system of parliamentary democracy. Otherwise, the students, even after completing their studies, still do not understand on the country's politics," he added. He was speaking to reporters after closing the annual conference of the Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu here on Sunday. Also present was GPMS president Jais Abdul Karim. Meanwhile, four resolutions were passed by GPMS at its annual conference this year, namely, to defend Malay education, produce leaders, strengthen its branches nationwide and produce more volunteers. -- BERNAMA
