Malaysians Not Affected By Earthquake In Melbourne

MELBOURNE (Australia), June 20 (Bernama) -- There was no report of Malaysians being injured in Tuesday night's earthquake which rocked the state of Victoria, said Malaysian Consul-General Mohd Rameez Yahaya. The tremor, the biggest in Victoria in 30 years, was recorded at 5.3 on the Richter scale at the epicentre 16km southwest of Moe, beginning 8.53pm, on Tuesday and lasted about 30 seconds. It was also felt across Melbourne. "So far, I have not heard from any Malaysian about being affected by the tremor," said Rameez. He said Malaysia's High Commissioner in Canberra Salman Ahmad contacted him early Wednesday morning, to inquire after the welfare of Malaysians, especially students in Victoria. "Generally, I think there was very little concern here about the earthquake," added Rameez. An ambulance spokesman said the tremor did not appear to have caused any serious injury. -- BERNAMA
