Malaysia's Largest Athlete Group Leaves For 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth

SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), July 23 (Bernama) -- The largest group of the Malaysian contingent left for London tonight to participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. It comprises over 60 athletes and officials involved in badminton, squash, athletics, artistic gymnastics, judo, table tennis, powerlifting and wheelchair basketball. Among the athletes in the group are badminton players Ng Tze Yong, Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, Pearly Tan, M. Thinaah, Goh Jin Wei, as well as Rachel Arnold (squash), Jackie Wong Siew Cheer (hammer throw) and Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (powerlifting). They boarded Malaysia Airlines flight MH0002, scheduled to depart at 11.30 pm tonight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Heathrow Airport, London. The national contingent will be represented by 162 individuals involving 104 athletes, 44 officials and 13 staff, with the target of bringing home six gold medals. The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held from July 28 to Aug 8, with approximately 6,500 athletes from 72 countries and territories expected to participate in this edition. -- BERNAMA
