Malcoy 7 Enhances Image Of Malaysia, ATM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- The success of Malaysian Company 7 (Malcoy 7) in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) has enhanced Malaysia's image and that of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) at the global stage.
Armed Forces Chief, General Zulkifeli Mohd Zain, said Malcoy 7 was the first contingent to carry out a 12-month mission with Unifil, beginning July 24 last year, as compared to the previous team which had served for nine months.
"The Malaysian involvement at international level in peacekeeping operations, as well as humanitarian aid, reflects Malaysian commitment in peace enforcement.
"During my visit to Lebanon last year, Unifil officers were always commended for their professionalism and ATM personnel, for their capability, in the mission," he told reporters after the homecoming ceremony at the Subang naval base here Tuesday.
Zulkifeli said the Malaysian contingent had given its cooperation with the other teams, and also the local community.
He said Malcoy 7 scored victories at the Unifil level when Mejar Werar Suleiman Ali emerged champion from among Asian countries in Unifil Dancon March, while Royal Malaysian Air Force Staff Corporal Norlia Rasali won the Unifil Ping Pong competition.
The return of Malcoy 7's first group of 199 members was led by Mejar Nazri Rosli. The group comprised 16 officers and 183 men of various ranks, including eight members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, Nazri said, while in Lebanon, he was in charge of the security of an area measuring 14 sq km.
He said Malcoy 7 was asigned to conduct patrolling in East Lebanon.
"I am very happy because I will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri (a celebration after the end of fasting month) with my family this year, unlike last year when I celebrated the festive season with the team and locals in Lebanon," he said. (photoBERNAMA)
