Manama in earnest to join global heritage list

Manama, July 2 (BNA): Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA)’s President Shaikh Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa today received a delegation of residents and traders from Manama city in the presence of the BACA team of engineers and experts from the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage in UNESCO village’s hall of Delmon.
The meeting reviewed means of boosting the civil community, private sector and NGOs’ participation in Bahrain’s cultural activities and infrastructure projects. The delegation was briefed about latest progress regarding nomination of Ancient Manama City to join the UNESCO’s Global Heritage list.
The delegation lauded the BACA efforts in boosting the cultural activities and preservation of civilizational heritage, affirming their readiness to contribute in supporting the ongoing work to preserve the cultural, urban and religious heritage of the ancient city of Manama to prepare its nomination dossier as a world heritage site.
The delegation visited the UNESCO village accompanied by Shaikha Mai where they were briefed about the work of the 42nd Meeting of the World Heritage Committee.
