MCIT Urges Voting for Qatari Projects Nominated for WSIS Forum 2023 Awards
Doha, January 02 (QNA) - The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MCIT) has called on the citizens, residents and stakeholders in the State of Qatar to vote for the Qatari projects nominated for the awards of the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) 2023 via the voting link of the competition before the deadline of the voting stage which is specified as Jan. 25, 2023.
Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the competition is solely a global platform to identify and unveil the success stories in implementing the eighteenth action lines endorsed by WSIS Forum in Geneva action plan to establish an effective mechanism to evaluate the projects that harness the capabilities of information and communications technology in giving impetus to the sustainable development, MCIT pointed out.
It noted that the list of the nominated projects included 10 projects represented by Tasmu Digital Valley-MCIT- for the first category "Role of governments and stakeholders in mobilizing ICTs for sustainable development", Government Data Center-MCIT- for the second category "Information and Communication Infrastructure", Government Network-MCIT- for the second category "Information and Communication Infrastructure", and Qatar Open Data Portal- MCIT- for the third category "Information and knowledge accessibility".
e-learning program to train the elderly- The Elderly Empowerment and Care Center "Ehsan"- for the fourth category "Capacity building", National Information Security Compliance Framework (NISCF)-National Cyber Security Agency- for the fifth category "Building confidence and security in the use of ICTs".
In addition, MCIT added that among the Qatari projects nominated for the forum were Qatar e-Government Portal (Hukoomi)-MCIT- for the seventh category "Electronic government", and Industrial Services Platform-Ministry of Commerce and Industry- for the seventh category "Electronic works", Digital Farmer Community-MCIT- for the seventh category "e-agriculture", and Media Analytics Service-MCIT- for the nineth category "Media".
The ministry pointed out that after the expiry of the voting deadline for all projects nominated from various countries around the world, 5 projects who have received the largest number of votes will be identified for each of the18 categories, adding that in the fourth stage of the competition, a team of experts from ITU will conduct in-depth analysis for the five most voted projects for each category, and select one winner project for each category, while winners and champions will be announced accordingly.
During the 5th and final stage for the competition, the 18 winners will be officially announced, MCIT said, in addition to honoring them with the 17 champions who will receive excellence certificates on the sidelines of the WSIS Forum 2023.
The details of the winner projects will be illustrated within the WSIS Stocktaking: Success Stories 2023 book, and all descriptions of the projects, along with the activities presented to the competition will be incorporated into the report of implementing the outcomes of (WSIS) Forum 2023, since the summit's awards ceremony represents a tribute for the qualified and winner projects and programs which have been distinct during the competition stages and qualified for the final stages.
