Minister Backs Participation Of Women In Politics

Jakarta, Oct 16 (Antara) - Women`s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar on Wednesday backed the involvement of women in politics. "The Ministry of Women`s Empowerment and Child Protection favors the involvement of women in the 2014 general elections," the minister said here. The representation of women in the political sphere is important in view of the principles of democracy and transparency in the organization of the state, she explained. According to Linda, women will bring a gender-related perspective to the table, particularly in the legislative body. This will lead to a more balanced formulation of laws and regulations, budgeting, and supervision. "Besides, it will also ensure the security and the welfare of people from all walks of life," Linda said.
