Minister briefs MPs on renewable energy projects

Manama, Apr. 16 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received members of the House of Representatives, Ali Buferson, Abdulrahman Bu Majid and Ahmed Qaratah.

The minister praised their sincere efforts in discussing issues that affect the interest of citizens, as well as the cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities in achieving the aspirations of citizens while improving efficiency of services in all fields.
The minister also gave a presentation on Bahrain’s renewable energy plans and projects that have the unlimited support of HM the King, HRH the Prime Minister and HRH the Crown Prince.
The most prominent of these projects is the establishment of a 100 megawatt solar power plant and the launch of the net metering system, which allows individuals and institutions to install and use solar energy in their homes and facilities. It also includes the launch of Bahrain’s first Wind Atlas, a map shows the rate of wind availability in various regions required for the operation of turbines generating clean energy from the wind.
The minister talked about the steps taken by the Sustainable Energy Unit to encourage investments in solar energy and work to increase energy efficiency through the National Renewable Energy Plan and the National Energy Efficiency Plan approved by the Council of Ministers last year.
A national committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs with the membership of senior officials in the relevant ministries to continue the implementation of the two plans.
The visitors expressed appreciation of the minister and officials’ efforts to improve the quality of services and follow up the implementation of these major projects in renewable energy, which heralds a promising future for Bahrain in the field of clean energy and sustainable development.
The MPs stressed that enhancing means of communication and continuous meetings between the legislative and executive authorities would bear fruit. They praised the constant cooperation between MPs and senior officials.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Minister, Dr. Ahmed Hashim, and Advisor to the Sustainable Energy Unit, Alexander Al Samahiji.
