Minister highlights Bahrain’s labour strides

Geneva, Nov. 3 (BNA): Labour Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, participated in the 334th Session of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Governing Body, currently held here.
The minister and his accompanying delegation met ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder, Arab Labor Organisation (ALO) Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi, and heads of the delegations to the 334th Session of ILO Governing Body.
The meetings are within the consultation and coordination on the issues on ILO’s Governing Body’s meeting agenda.
They are also aimed at discussing areas of fruitful cooperation between the kingdom and brotherly and friendly countries, as well as the relevant international organisations.
Humaidan and his accompanying delegation reviewed the latest pioneering initiatives taken by the kingdom to provide more social protection for workers, in addition to its efforts to update its legislative systems to achieve more labour gains in accordance with ILO standards.
They also highlighted the kingdom’s efforts to enhance channels of social dialogue among social partners to ensure more joint cooperation and coordination to achieve the common interests of the three production parties and push economic and social development forward.
Bahrain’s remarkable labour gains are the outcome of the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the policies and programmes launched by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, the minister said.
He affirmed that the leaders’ directives and support have reflected positively on improving the work environment.
Senior officials and heads of delegations lauded Bahrain’s labour achievements and initiatives to develop its labour market and ensure the rights of the three production parties, which, they said, is an example to be emulated in the region.
